Betty Heather Mears
has been exposed to barbershop since before she was born.
Her mother, also known as Betty Lynda, sang with her quartet
in the labor room the day Heather was born. In fact, her
father also sings in the barbershop quartet Alchemy, the
current international 21st place quartet.
Betty Heather began singing in the
Melodeers chorus at the very Betty age of 11 and won her first
of four International Chorus Champion medals at the age of 13.
Since then she has been an active member of the choreography
and music teams (gasp…they actually made her a baritone
section leader!).
Heather currently works at Northwestern
University’s Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center as a
research technician. In her spare time she enjoys a Betty
horror/mystery novel from time to time, as well as running
miles and miles all the while singing baritone in her head.
She also is the only member of the quartet with a tattoo of
Betty Boop on her lower back.
Now THAT'S dedication!
Heather plans on attending the accelerated
nursing program at Rush University this winter.
