ABOUT FOUR BETTYS
Four Bettys is the reigning Sweet Adelines International Champion Quartet. With a combined 40+ years singing and numerous national and international awards, they share a passion for performing.
The Bettys just love an audience, and have enjoyed a wide variety of performance situations including concerts, barbershop chapter shows, special events, serenades, or even drive-by singings. The Bettys have sung for audiences in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Nevada, Kansas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Florida, Canada, Maryland and can soon be seen in Oregon, California and Hawaii. Last May, the Bettys had the rare honor of headlining a show at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
BETTY HISTORY-
In May 2002 and again in May 2003 the Bettys won Silver Medals at the SAI Region 3 competition in Michigan, and in August 2002 they were named Female Quartet Champions at the Buckeye Invitational in Ohio.
In May 2004, Four Bettys won 1st place at the Sweet Adelines International Region 3 competition in Michigan earning the right to compete at the international level that fall. In October 2004 Four Bettys captured 7th in the world at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Indianapolis, IN. This was the Betty’s first trip to international competition and they were quite pleased to reach the prestigious top ten on their first try.
In October 2005 the Bettys were even more excited to capture a spot in the Elite Top Five at the Sweet Adelines International competition held in Detroit, MI! The Bettys earned 3rd Place honors. In October, 2006, they traveled to Las Vegas where they were awarded 2nd Place Medals!
The Bettys weren’t done there! Last October, the Bettys traveled to Calgary, Alberta Canada and achieved their ultimate goal! They were crowned the 2008 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Champions! This is the greatest honor bestowed on a Sweet Adelines quartet, and they are just tickled PINK to be representing their wonderful organization and about what the future holds!
BETTY BIOS-
Betty-Tenor Joan Boutilier has been a Sweet Adeline since 1989, the front-line director of the Choral-Aires Chorus since 1996. Joan is also an active quartet and chorus coach. In recent years, Joan has become an Approved Candidate Judge in the Sound Category the Sweet Adelines International Judging program and a Mentor Director to other directors in the organization. Joan and her husband have three children and live in Lake Zurich, IL.
Betty-Lead Lynda Keever is a chronic "over-achiever." In addition to singing with
Four Bettys, she is a member and an assistant director of the Melodeers Chorus. Lynda is an Approved Candidate Judge in the Music category. She is also the Directors Coordinator on the Region 3 management team. Lynda spends her days as an attorney in Chicago and calls Elmhurst, IL home. She is a voracious reader; plays multiple instruments; and is the very proud parent of Betty-Bari Heather!
Betty-Bari Heather Mears has been exposed to barbershop since before she was born. Her mother, Betty Lynda, sang with her quartet in the labor room the day Heather was born. Heather began singing in the Melodeers chorus at the age of 11 and won her first of four International Chorus Champion medals at the age of 13. She is the Baritone Section Leader of the Melodeers Chorus. Heather lives in Chicago, and is a Nurse at Rush University Hospital …, our very own Nurse Betty!
Betty-Bass Cori Albrecht is also a second-generation barbershopper. Like Heather, Cori has her mother, Pat Catencamp, to blame.., uh.., thank for getting her involved in this hobby. She has been a member of the Melodeers Chorus for 18 years where she is the Director’s Resource Staff Coordinator and Bass Section Leader. Cori spends her days as a freelance Public Relations professional. She and her husband, are raising their two “tweener” kids in Rolling Meadows, IL
